Live from New York Poster

A pretty cool poster has been released for the new documentary about Saturday Night Live and its impact on the cultural zeitgeist over the course of forty years, Live from New York, and it's pretty cool looking. Not only do we get a breathtaking shot of the iconic stage, but we also get a glimpse at the chair of lore with the old SNL logo inscribed on the back of it. Plus, the tagline of the movie is a perfect quote from Lorne Michaels. A winning poster all-around.

Documentary Now! Trailer

Remember back in April of 2014, when I posted about a new show IFC was developing about multiple installments of a fake documentary about fictional historical figures from the brains of Bill Hader, Fred Armisen, and Seth Meyers? Well, after a long period of about a year where nothing was heard about the show, new news has finally broken. In the best way possible. IFC gave us a trailer for the show, which was given the title Documentary Now! And it just looks like it's going to be a fantastic show. Plus, it's only eight days away from premiering. August 20th! I know I'm in.

F.A.O. Schwarz Is Closing

This is sad news. The New York City staple, F.A.O. Schwarz, the expansive toy store on 5th Avenue, closed its doors on July 15th. There were, at one point, over fifty locations of the store in the United States, but this summer the Manhattan residence was the only remaining one. And now that, too, is closed. My sentimentality for this store comes, not from visiting it, but by its representation in both pop and Christmas culture. What is Home Alone 2 without F.A.O. Schwarz? What is Big without it? All we know is that the owners are looking for a new, cheaper location. For now, I'll leave you with the following gif. Godspeed, Schwarz.

Darrell Hammond Is Colonel Sanders

In a new ad campaign for Kentucky Fried Chicken, the fast food restaurant chain has resurrected their founder, Colonel Sanders. But the good part of this news, the part that actually matters, is that playing Sanders in the new commercials is Darrell Hammond, a Saturday Night Live icon who is best known for playing Sean Connery in the Celebrity Jeopardy sketches and Donald Trump, Bill Clinton, and Chris Matthews in most cold opens. My only problem with this is that it seems like KFC forgot that Sanders was an actual person who lived and not a mascot, but oh well. Hammond is still an excellent choice.

The Best News Ever

Mindy Kaling and B.J. Novak are writing a book together. Think about that sentence. Chew on it. Think about what it means. And now read this next sentence. MINDY KALING AND B.J. NOVAK ARE WRITING A BOOK TOGETHER! I can't even handle this. Two of my all-time favorite books are Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? by Mindy Kaling and One More Thing by B.J. Novak so just imagine how much I'm going to love a book written by the two of them together. I just cannot wait. Random House used seven and a half million dollars to get the rights to the book in the smartest decision ever made. No more news has been released outside of the press release, but who cares? IT'S HAPPENING AND I CANNOT WAIT! So. Good.

Cooties Trailer

It feels like this movie has been in the works for the longest time, but we finally, finally, have a trailer for the new horror comedy, Cooties. It looks like it might actually be pretty good. And it has a winning cast in Jorge Garcia, Nasim Pedrad, Jack McBrayer, Rainn Wilson, and Elijah Wood. I'll give it a shot. (If it ever comes out!)

Breadstick Sandwiches

Everyone knows that Olive Garden's signature delicacy is the delicious breadstick. But now, they've taken that breadstick to the next level. By splitting it in half and putting succulent meat and cheese in between it. Meatball subs, chicken parm sandwiches. These are all options now. (Also, apparently, as seen in the picture, Olive Garden has fries now? Whatever.) Thank you, whatever god created this.
