Argument 27: What Was The Worst Time In History To Be A Boston Sports Fan?

I'll be a little bit more specific. The year of 2001. Don't look at it now. Look at it from the point of view as if you're in that year. The Red Sox just barely won 82 games, they won't be headed to the postseason. Drew Bledsoe's hurt! The Patriots season is over. Some guy named Tom Brady's taking over and they're 0-3! The Celtics are bound for the Finals, woohoo! But wait, how do you lose to the Nets? The Bruins can't even capitalize on 43 wins! What's wrong with these teams they have no motivation and no future. And would you look at that? The Sox just traded for Doug Mirabelli. What the hell?

Boston sports fans in 2001 had no idea how close they were to greatness.

Argument 26: Who Was The Best Pitcher In Red Sox History?

Book Answer: Roger Clemens

Sure, Roger Clemens is the premature choice. Pedro's the safe choice. Lonborg's the dark horse. Radatz is the unwise choice. Lefty Grove's the left-handed choice. Wakefield's the knuckle choice. El Tiante's the wild choice. Cy Young is the right choice. Eight seasons with the Boston franchise. Over 500 career wins. The best pitcher award is NAMED AFTER HIM. How can you not pick him? Every time that he's left out of the discussion I get frustrated and a little bit angry. How can you not? CY YOUNG. He's the ONLY choice.
