They Just Don't Quit

Tomorrow's December, but the commercials aren't done yet. This one's not humorous, but for some reason, I like it. I have to assume with the Christmas month coming up, the commercials aren't done yet.

'The Target' Recap

*SPOILER*

  • I think that Dwight and Angela have now taken steps to get back together. It certainly seems that the Senator won't be around much longer.
  • What if Kevin did get his kneecaps broken?
  • So Oscar was finally discovered. One story line resolved. He had to have been caught eventually, I suppose.
  • Haha, Stanley and Phyllis were awesome in this one.
  • It must have been incredibly hard for neither Dwight nor Angela nor Toby to laugh during that extra scene at the end.
  • I do not know how Pete was so good at stacking that tower.
  • I know how Pam feels about starting the mural.
  • No word from Andy whatsoever.
  • It seems that Jim's tenure at Dunder Mifflin will come to a close soon. The days are numbered.

Argument 65: Should Teams Promote Pitching Coaches To Manager?

Book Answer: No.

In my opinion, catchers make the best managers. Especially after what we saw this season. Bruce Bochy. Joe Girardi. Jason Varitek is also bound for greatness. Regarding pitching coaches? I think we'll find out how it affects Boston. After all, they just hired John Farrell, a former pitching coach. His numbers in Toronto weren't too terrible, but all us Bostonians care about is how well he does with the Sox. Which we'll find out one day.

Everybody say ooo. Everybody say ahh. That's right, here is some added hilarity. Yay! Enjoy:

Argument 64: Who Was The Worst Manager In Red Sox History?

Book Answer: Joe Kerrigan

The book was released in 2006, so they had no idea about what would happen when Bobby Valentine came to town. Maybe it's just because it's so recent, but it's so vividly terrible. He was supposed to change the Red Sox when he instead, made the results about a million times worse. Bobby V was terrible for the Red Sox. He was a terrible decision. He made terrible decisions. That will forever be his Bostonian legacy.

NaNoWriMo 2012 CHAMPION!

Back-to-back years! Last year I wrote over 50,000 words of Elkhorn. Now, I wrote 50,000 words of Tomorrow's Village. Here are the stats:

You can tell which days were tough (no change in bar graph) and which were weekends (extraordinary jumps.) Can you spot Thanksgiving? That was so grueling. I think it's quite a quality story, too. Can't wait til next year? I'm so glad I did it!

History via Facebook

That's just one section. From the Big Bang all the way to Occupy Wall Street. Somebody put a lot of work into making the history of Earth if it happened on Facebook. There's 28 sections including Ancient Egypt and the French Revolution. Check it out at College Humor. I thoroughly enjoyed it, despite the lengthiness.

Argument 63: What Was The Worst Decision Ever Made By A Red Sox Manager?

Book Answer: Grady Little Leaves Pedro Martinez In Too Long

With the Red Sox leading the Yankees in Game Seven of the 2003 ALCS, Pedro Martinez started to feel fatigued. Runners were getting on. Runs were being scored, but Little wouldn't budge. He didn't take Pedro out until it was too late. The Yankees had found themselves right back in the midst of the game. Sadly and unfortunately, we know how the game went. The Red Sox lost to Aaron Boone. Cost them a trip to the Series? That's a pretty bad decision. I almost picked a Bobby V decision, but he'll have his time in the argument series.

December Polls

December polls are upon us. Normally, I just have one. This December, there will be a slew! I will have five. You get the pleasure of voting for them. This will be awesome. Now. What polls should I do?

Ben Affleck - Entertainer of the Year?

Entertainment Weekly announced their Entertainer of the Year. #1 was Ben Affleck. He directed Argo this year. I do not know that he would have been my choice. I suppose Joseph Gordon-Levitt did pretty well. He was in almost everything it seems. Lincoln, Looper, Dark Knight. Ah, the superheroes. My choice? Almost definitely Joss Whedon. The Avengers was pretty good. How about you?

Argument 62: Who Was The Worst Coach In Patriots History?

Book Answer: Rod Rust

The Patriots have had their fair share of awful coaches until Bill Belichick came along. The worst of the worst probably led the Pats to the worst record they ever had. That would be Rod Rust. He led them to 1-15. That's one loss from being winless! That's pretty awful!

Argument 61: What Was The Greatest Football Play In Boston Sports History?

Book Answer: Doug Flutie's Hail Mary

That's right, I agreed with it! The greatest play in Boston football history is not from the Patriots, but the Eagles. The Boston College Eagles, that is. How amazing is this play? A Hail Mary from Flutie to win it. One of the greatest plays ever, never mind Boston football history. Just keep watching it over and over and over again.

Chevy Chase Returns As Clark Griswold

We all love Christmas Vacation. Old Navy is bringing back some scenes to be re-enacted. This is the first:

It could be better. Mediocre and strange, I'd say.

Gatriots News!

This is one of the last Gatriots news of the season. With the Gators only having one game left to play, it'll be hard to combine it. Nonetheless, let's recap!

If the Gators beat Florida State on Saturday and USC beat Notre Dame, Florida would be sitting at the cusp of the BCS Championship. The Gators chomped the hated Seminoles, but it was not to be this season. Notre Dame downed the Trojans, but it was a close game. Still thrilled about the awesome win at Florida State! Gillislee and Sturgis were so very awesome! Sugar Bowl bound!
I've already recapped the Patriots in my Thanksgiving post. So I'll recap the recap. The Patriots grounded the Jets 49-19. Mark Sanchez walked into his own lineman and fumbled the ball. There were numerous fumbles. Steve Gregory had a fumble recovery returned for a touchdown, two forced fumbles and an interception. Edelman had two touchdowns. Welker had one. It was a good Thanksgiving for the Patriots.

East-West Collegiate Bowl

The players have been named to the East and West college football All-Star teams. My favorite on here is either Smith or McKringleberry. Check all of the players out:

Thanksgiving 2012 Recap

The Patriots grounded the Jets 49-19. Mark Sanchez walked into his own lineman and fumbled the ball. There were numerous fumbles. Steve Gregory had a fumble recovery returned for a touchdown, two forced fumbles and an interception. Edelman had two touchdowns. Welker had one. It was a good Thanksgiving for the Patriots.
Not for the Lions. On a bad call for the refs, Jim Schwartz made the wrong decision and threw a challenge flag. It's a messed up rule, hard to explain, but it cost the Lions the game and probably their season.
The Macy's Parade was great. No better place than Rock Center with Matt Lauer. The Elf on the Shelf balloon debuted.

It was a great Thanksgiving with family, fun and food! I hope yours was well. A very good day.

Pierce Hawthorne Has Dropped Out

Sadly, the Chevy Chase debacle on Community has boiled over. Chevy Chase has decided to leave the show. It all began with a feud between Chase and Dan Harmon a while back. Harmon ended up fire to keep Pierce on the show. Later on, Chevy apparently used a very bad word and had to apologize. I guess he's fed up. The show and Chase are in agreement that he will leave. He won't be appearing in 1 or 2 episodes this season. It's effective immediately. It's too bad that it ended this way.

Rocky the Soldier

This is such a quality video. Just enjoy. There's nothing I can say. Just enjoy.

Argument 60: Which Patriots Player Had The Most Unique Career After Hangin' 'Em Up?

Book Answer: Bill Lenkaitis

I'm going to agree with each unique career after hangin' 'em up that they had in the book. I don't really know too much about the personal lives of each player, but the book has provided very good examples. The final one? Bill Lenkaitis. The only thing you need to know is the former Patriots center is now a dentist! Drastic change!

The NFL Playoff Machine

The NFL Playoff Machine is a neat little tool on ESPN.com where you can try to predict the winners of each game for the last six weeks of the season. It updates standings, rankings, seedings, and records for each team. I tried it out and according to my predictions, the Patriots should get the second seed. The Buccaneers actually end up in the playoffs, according to me. Try it out and see what you think. Just click on the first four words. It's cool!

Argument 59 - Which Red Sox Player Had The Most Unique Career After Hangin' 'Em Up?

Book Answer: Carmen Fanzone

I agree with this one because of two words. Johnny Carson. But let's get to that. He played only 10 games for the Sox before being traded to the Cubs. After leaving baseball, he received a music degree from Central Michigan University. He played trumpet for the Baja Marimba Band, played with the Jimmy Dorsey Orchestra, backed up Tony Bennett, and toured with Lou Rawls. Eventually he settled in on Johnny Carson's Tonight Show as their trumpet player. Baseball to music, the transition was smooth.

Fantasy Basketball 2012-13

  3. Go To Jail For 60 Days Because Of DUI

Gatriots News of the Week

When the Gators defeated Jacksonville State, it seemed that the story line would be that Will Muschamp is up for Coach of the Year and Mike Gillislee was only 33 yards away from the season's 1000 mark. By the end of the day, though, the Gators seemed to be in position to make a bid at the BCS Championship Game. #1 Kansas State fell to Baylor 52-24 and #2 Oregon fell to #13 Stanford 17-14 in overtime. This should send Florida to #4 in the BCS Standings. Next week, if USC defeats Notre Dame and Florida beats Florida State, the Gators would be in prime position to go to the BCS Championship because Georgia and Alabama in the SEC Championship Game would be a push. Someone would lose. Jeff Driskel brought all of this to light last night on Twitter. I will never root for USC as hard as I will next week. Let's CHOMP!!
Meanwhile, the Patriots had their own game to win. Tom Brady was squaring off in a the new era of Patriots-Colts rivalry. Andrew Luck was to be ushered in and he received a rude awakening. Intercepted three times, twice for touchdowns, he was rocked all game long. Gronk caught two touchdowns, Edelman returned a kick for a touchdown and caught one, as well. Ridley added a score and the Patriots won 59-24. Aqib Talib had an amazing debut with that pick six. Patriots are raking now. They look like a team. Let's go!

Disney Rides Go Pop Culture Crazy!

Haunted Mansion film from Guillermo del Toro! Magic Kingdom flick from Jon Favreau! Pirates of the Caribbean 5! Jungle Cruise movie! Mr. Toad's Wild Ride! Ready for the next one? Big Thunder Mountain Railroad! ABC is developing a television show about the ride called Big Thunder Mountain. Chris Morgan from Fast and Furious and Jason Fuchs from Ice Age are working together to make this show. I'm looking forward to it thoroughly!

Rolling Out The Time Lapse

Every time that Disney decorates for Halloween or Christmas or, you know, revamps Fantasyland, they always have a time lapse for us to enjoy. This Christmas is no different.

Dustin Pedroia Deserves It

Wouldn't you give the 2008 MVP a contract extension. It's good to keep laser shows on your side anyway. The muddier the chicken, the better. I could go on like this for a while. Here's what you need to know. Pedroia has two years left on his current contract and the Red Sox want to lock him up through 2020 with about $20 million per year. I say: worth it! More important to the Red Sox than any free agent will be.

The Whale Recap

*SPOILER*

  • So we've seen Roy again and now Jan. I wonder who else will show up.
  • They made Jan out to be the worst person ever, but I don't remember them being so afraid of her when she was on the show regularly.
  • Well, it seems that Angela has found out about Oscar and the Senator.
  • Toby looks extremely creepy with a mustache.
  • Is Andy going to die on that boat?
  • Jim and Pam need to make up their minds.

Want To Feel Happy?

Then check out the promotional video that Disney has created for their ice sculptures in New York City. I'd say it's fantastic!

Goodbye Hostess

I never quite cared for their products, but it'll be weird not seeing them on the shelves. Ho-Hos, Suzy Q's, Donettes, Cup Cakes, Wonder Bread, Twinkies, all of the Drake products. They've been around for my entire life. Even though I didn't like them, it'll be odd, ya know? The picture is a shrine that my father made following panic purchases of the out-of-business Hostess. It's official. R.I.P.

Argument 57: Which Celtics Player Had The Most Unique Career After Hanging 'Em Up?

Book Answer: Kevin "Chuck" Connors

I have to agree with this. After Connors retired from the Celtics, he joined the Brooklyn Dodgers. After only one game, he decided to go play for the Chicago Cubs. Helping the Dodgers again, he was crucial in the negotiations to sign Sandy Koufax. Connors was later drafted by the Chicago Bears football team, but he never played a game for them. That's not all. Connors received a role in the 1952 film, Pat and Mike. In television, he also starred in Old Yeller. Connors appeared in many other roles such as, Flipper, Gunsmoke, Murder, She Wrote, and most notably, The Rifleman. Not finished. In 1973, he traveled to the Soviet Union with Secretary General Leonid Brezhnev. Pretty unique.

Argument 56: Did Military Service Cost Ted Williams The Home Run Record?

Book Answer: No

Let's do the math. The record? Barry Bonds at 762. During Ted's time? Hank Aaron at 756. He hit about 27 per year. Factor in the prime years of his career missed, so let's say that he'll hit 39 in 1943, 44 in 1944, and 40 in 1945. It wouldn't give it to him. About a 100 short. He'd need a little less than 250. So around 83 homers per year and he'd get the homer record. It wasn't military service.

Big Bang Theory Flash Mob

It's nice to see that they had some fun. I wondered why Sheldon didn't participate, but he had a good line. Check it out:

Community Short

Starring Danny Pudi and Alison Brie. Written by Danny Pudi. Directed by Donald Glover. Posted by Joel McHale. Enjoy.

Argument 55: Boston: Football Town or Baseball Town?

Book Answer: Baseball Town

There's no way it can be a football town. Here's a five-bullet list that will convince you immediately:

  • Patriots play in Foxboro.
  • Red Sox: seven championships. Patriots: three.
  • Sox around since 1903. Patriots since 1960.
  • Ted Williams and Fenway Park > Tom Brady and Gillette Stadium.
No offense to the Pats, but Boston's a baseball town. We love our football, but we live for baseball.

Guy Who Selects Locker Room Music

The Patriots have come across a bit of turmoil since Matt Light retired. No, it's not on the offensive line, but rather in the locker room. You see, Light would always pick the pre-game music, but now that he's gone, the position is vacant. Who's better for the job? Zoltan Mesko or Deion Branch? Decide for yourself:

High Quality Photos

The Chive has put together a collection of 35 amazing pictures that help you realize that life truly is incredible. My favorite is pictured, but if you click on The Chive, you can see all of them.

Argument 54: What Was The Most Memorable Pitch In Fenway History?

Book Answer: Ted Williams Throws Out The First Pitch In The 1999 All-Star Game

I have to agree. The most memorable pitch came, not from a pitcher, but from the greatest hitter of all time. Ted Williams. Teddy Ballgame. In the 1999 All-Star Game at Fenway Park, the All-Century Team was announced. Everyone one from Cy Young back in 1900 to Ken Griffey Jr. in 1999 was honored. All of baseball's greats were there and the loudest applause came when Ted Williams rode out to the mound and threw out the first pitch. It was a moment bigger than Pedro's heroics in the game. Heck, the moment almost overshadowed the entire season. For one moment, all that mattered was Ted Williams. Just like it did when he was last in Fenway after he hit his final homer in his final at bat and ran into the dugout without a spoken word. This was his final appearance at Fenway Park as he would pass away three years later, but this was immortalized in the historic lore of the Fenway Park mound.

Another Good One

I'm sorry, you're probably sick of me posting different commercials, but there's just so many good ones in the back half of 2012, I just have to share.

Jurassic Park. 3D?

3D seems to be what's cool nowadays. You've got The Lion King and Finding Nemo as enormous successes being re-released in 3D. Star Wars is going to be doing it soon. Monsters Inc and Beauty and the Beast will too. But here's what's upcoming. Jurassic Park 3D? On April 5, 2013, the original Jurassic Park will be re-released in IMAX theaters to promote the 20th anniversary. Neat.

Victorious Gatriots News!

This week we learned that the Gators defense is incredible and the Gators offense is sub-par. Lead by Purifoy and Jenkins, the Florida Gators defeated the Louisiana Lafayette Ragin' Cajuns 27-20 in the final seconds. After two touchdowns and two field goals, the Gators had to come back to tie Louisiana at 20. Then, on a punt, Jelani Jenkins blocked it and it was returned 36 yards for the touchdown! The Gators win! Later that day, Georgia defeated Auburn 38-0 which means that the Gators won't be playing in the SEC Championship game. It will be Georgia instead. But not to fret, Alabama lost which means Florida will be on the up and up and will have excellent bowl position. Why not mention this? Gators men's basketball won 84-35! Absolutely dominant. That win means that the Gators had seven different games in seven different sports this weekend. They won them all. Chomp!
This week we learned that the Patriots offense is incredible and the Patriots defense is sub-par. Back in Foxboro, Ridley and Woodhead rushed for touchdowns. Woodhead also caught one and Gronkowski did too. The Patriots were well on their way to easily defeating the Bills, but they let 'em back in the game. Luckily, McCourty intercepted Fitzpatrick in the end zone to close the game and the Patriots won 37-31. Phew! On to the next one!
