75 Best Songs: 23

The wonderful song from an equally wonderful scene in Elf (where I first heard it) comes in at the twenty-third spot. You just really have to love Sinatra.

Choose Your Own Adventure: The Movie

Everyone knows the Choose Your Own Adventure books. Weren't those things great? We chose the story! That's what was so wonderful about them. You never knew what was coming next! But how will that work in film form? Will everyone experience a different movie? What type of technology will be used? What approach will be taken? No one knows the answers to these questions, yet, but we do know who will be behind the creation of this film. Thomas Lennon and Robert Ben Garant from the Night at the Museum trilogy will pen the film's script while Rawson Marshall Thurber will direct it. Thurber previously worked on Dodgeball and We're the Millers. I assume it will be live action and it could go either very well or very poorly. We'll have to wait and see!

A New Peanuts Movie?

20th Century Fox and Paul Feig are collaborating on a new TWO DIMENSIONAL (YES!) animated Peanuts film to be released on November 6, 2015. I do trust Feig so that is a plus. His team includes director Steve Martino and writer Craig Schulz. That's right. SCHULZ. Two things hit on the checklist! Two very crucial things. I think this could be a great thing, if done right. Feig says he just really loves the Peanuts and I'm sure he'll do them justice. I really cannot wait. It'll be good, trust me. BUT, please have good voice actors!

28 Day LNJF Challenge: Favorite Impression

Nobody does Jerry Seinfeld better than Jimmy Fallon (impression-wise). Even Seinfeld has said it. I always love when Jimmy breaks out his Seinfeld impression because it is really just quite perfect. He's got it down.

What a fun challenge! It was certainly enjoyable to go through all of the great moments in Jimmy Fallon's Late Night career. So much fun. He's been great on The Tonight Show. Maybe one day...a Tonight Show challenge? It'll be fun, too!

75 Best Songs: 24

The second best song about Major Tom is still the twenty-fourth best song ever. This is the ultimate karaoke song. This is a wonderfully powerful song, that is often open to ridicule, but holds firm over all these years. Shiny! Toy! Guns!

Puppy Bowl X

Oh, the Puppy Bowl is always so cute, but it is a little slow. Thankfully, Animal Planet added little bits and past highlights to this year's show, it was worth recording. Maybe, I fell asleep for five quick minutes, but I woke back up. Plus, one of the awesomely adorable dogs tied a Puppy Bowl record. Jolly good show!

28 Day LNJF Challenge: Favorite Promo

Honestly, there is nothing more perfect than this promo. It is so simple yet conveys a lot. Jimmy Fallon fixing his suit so very handsomely. The huge moon in the back with the new logo on it. The landscape of New York City very visible atop the roof. The Frank Sinatra song. Gosh it's just perfect. Start spreading the news...

75 Best Songs: 25

We all know the lyrics. The cat's in the cradle and the silver spoon...you know the rest. A horrifyingly depressing song about the loss of a bond between father and son. It's a bit quick so you don't catch it at first, but the lyrics are really sad! Great song, though.

The Man of The Mindy Project

James Franco, Bill Hader, Ed Helms, Ike Barinholtz, Seth Meyers, Josh Peck, BJ Novak, Seth Rogen, Chris Messina. They are all such great people and each of them paired with Mindy Kaling is enough to warrant the sharing of this list. The definitive ranking of the sixteen best men of The Mindy Project. Take a stroll through guest acting legendary-ness.

100 Posts in February 2014

Wow, we really haven't done one of these in a while, but February 2014 was such a big, important, influential month that it was definitely deserving of 100 posts. As you know, my goal is to reach 100 posts in each month, but in any year. The "x" represents how many times I've gotten to 100 in that month. Here's how it's going:

January - [x]
February - [x] [x]
March - [ ]
April - [x]
May - [x]
June - [x]
July - [x] [x]
August - [x]
September - [x]
October - [x] [x]
November - [x]
December - [x] [x]

Still waiting on the elusive March. Maybe it's coming up...

28 Day LNJF Challenge: Favorite Recurring Sketch

Gosh, I just love the summer camp bits with Justin Timberlake so much. They're so hilariously flawless. Mr. Fletcher is great, the song choices are great, everything about it is just wonderful and they break so easily, it's hilarious. I hope for a third someday.

75 Best Songs: 26

My all-time favorite song from One Republic. My favorite song of 2011. Very inspiring and uplifting.

Great song. Love it.

How I Met Your Mother Turns 200

Every time a show is given the gift of knowing the arrival of their final season ahead of time, there is an episode you can tell has set the wheels toward the end in motion. For The Office, that was Couples Discount. For How I Met Your Mother, it was their 200th episode. This episode definitely let everyone know the end is nigh. It was also incredibly amazing. We were taken through a very quick summary of the mother's life to this point. It included a much needed quarrel between Lily and Marshall that brought up San Francisco and actually gave me chills. It showed some depth in Barney, which we've seen a lot, but still. It also showcased the tortured souls that are Ted and the mother. It ended in an astounding acoustic performance for the mother that truly was the moment the end started. Plus, "Haaaaaave you met, Ted?" and "Puzzles" references for the win!

The Amazing Race: All-Stars

The Amazing Race All-Stars have been announced and I have to admit I am quite fond of most of the teams. All though aren't the real All-Stars the teams that won? I get what they're trying to do. I have provided you with the top two teams I am rooting for. This is one of the only reality/competition shows I enjoy so I'm gonna enjoy the hell out of it!

Joey and Meaghan

Leo and Jamal

28 Day LNJF Challenge: Favorite Musical Guest

I was going to do Justin Timberlake because it is always fun when gets together with Jimmy, plus his musical performances are always great. But I've already mentioned him as one of my favorites. Plus, this is kind of a more overall type thing. I thought about Paul McCartney and Paul Simon, but eventually decided on the great, my favorite, Jason Mraz! He performed 93 Million Miles, a great song, but there's no video of it anywhere, sadly.

75 Best Songs: 27

My fourth favorite Jason Mraz song is still one of my all-time favorites because, gosh, he's just really great. Enjoy the chart topping hit from his most recent album.

A Quick Interview with Zooey Deschanel and Mindy Kaling

The Hollywood Reporter has an article (which can be read here) featuring a quick sit-down conversation with two of the funniest people to ever live, Mindy Kaling and Zooey Deschanel. They talked about their favorite actors and starring in their own shows. Here is my favorite quote which is a treasure. to me.

Deschanel: “Watching 30 Rock was what made me want to get into TV, because I watched that show and I thought, 'God, that actually looks like fun.' I watched that show and I just thought how great TV comedy could be at its apex. Now there are so many great shows, it’s amazing."

There are also snippets from Joel McHale and Chelsea Peretti in the article. Good stuff!

28 Day LNJF Challenge: Favorite Recurring Character

I couldn't find a picture of Gary from Ew! so I had to post the video with Jimmy Fallon and Channing Tatum. My favorite recurring character was between Mr. Fletcher from the Summer Camp videos and Gary from Ew! You can tell I'm a big fan of head writer, A.D. Miles. I love Gary, he's the step-dad.

Paying Tribute to Celtics Greats

When the Brooklyn Nets came to Boston to face the Celtics, there was obviously a lot of talk about what the reaction to the first return of Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce would be. The answer? Thunderous applause, a standing ovation, and two emotional video tributes. They are very deserving it, especially Pierce. Great celebration.

Him

Is Seth Rogen the new master of parodies? He and James Franco already created a hugely successful, incredibly hilarious parody of Kanye West's Bound 2 video. Now, his parody of the trailer for Her (aptly titled Him) is also so very funny. Odd, but hilarious.

Ellie Kemper Hosts Ellen

Ellen DeGeneres was just too sick to do one of her shows so she chose someone with a similar-ish first name and great comedic talent. Ellie Kemper served as guest host for an episode of Ellen's talk show, Ellen. I did not watch the full episode, just this clap, but it seems like she did well!

28 Day LNJF Challenge: Favorite Cold Open

Going to have a more recent one here. Every Full House reference is awesome. The whole idea of it is great. Very hilarious.

Bad NFL Lip Reading 2

Last year's hilarious viral sensation, Bad NFL Lip Reading, has now achieved fifty million views on YouTube. The sequel has just made it, in one month, to eighteen million views. Both are quite humorous! My favorite of the new one is, "Hey, I found a girlfriend for the Latin kid." Enjoy! It's always so impressive and accurate.

The Fourth Greatest Event in Television History

Adam Scott has continued his 'Greatest Event' series on Adult Swim with this fourth installment. He, Paul Rudd, Aidy Bryant, Gillian Jacobs, and more recreated the original intro to the classic show, Bosom Buddies. It also features special cameo appearances from Tom Hanks and Billy Joel! Very well done. This is my favorite thus far.

Another B.J. Novak Book Is on the Way!

B.J. Novak's One More Thing: Stories and Other Stories was released on February 4 and his other book of short fiction stories is in the writing process as I type this for Knopf Publishing. Novak has also signed with Penguin Young Readers Group so he can create a children's book. The book, marketed as a picture book, will be titled The Book with No Pictures. Lauri Hornik, the president of 'Penguin', said the book will be a picture book, but no, it will not include pictures. I think that is straight up awesome! We all know B.J. is fascinated by text and words and he thinks kids should be too, so this is just really great. I'm so excited for it. Also, he said he cannot draw. Fair enough.

28 Day LNJF Challenge: Favorite Viral Video

I really really really really love when there are lip sync battles. Perhaps no video from Late Night went more viral than this lip sync battle featuring Jimmy Fallon, Joseph Gordon Levitt, and Stephen Merchant. God, it's beautiful, every part of it. I would like to take this time to rank the performances.

1. Tiny Dancer - Elton John - Joseph Gordon Levitt
2. Boom Shake the Room - DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince - Stephen Merchant
3. Superbass - Nicki Minaj - Joseph Gordon Levitt
4. Take on Me - a-Ha - Jimmy Fallon
5. Single Ladies - Beyonce - Stephen Merchant
6. Don't You Want Me? - The Human League - Jimmy Fallon

Love it!

Mork and Mindy Reunion

Robin Williams and Pam Dawber will be reuniting on Williams' new show, The Crazy Ones, in an episode this spring. The two were obviously co-stars on the bizarre Happy Days spin-off, Mork and Mindy. Dawber will apparently play a travel writer that Williams' character, Simon, meets at a book signing. Should be must-see TV.

The New Weekend Update Anchor

Now that Seth Meyers has departed from both Saturday Night Live and Weekend Update, Lorne Michaels felt it necessary to tap a new co-anchor for the great Cecily Strong. Current head writer, Colin Jost has landed the job as new Weekend Update co-anchor and I hope Jost and Strong is a winning combination just like Strong and Meyers were in the past, along with Meyers and Amy Poehler, Tina Fey and Jimmy Fallon, Fey and Poehler, and so on. I personally would have thought Beck Bennett as the perfect choice, but I cannot question Michaels' motives. Good luck to Jost!

Not Quite the Classics

Colin Mochrie has written a book and the concept sounds fascinatingly funny. His new book called, Not Quite the Classics, is a collection of stories, not as long as their originals. Apparently, he begins a story with the first lines of a famous novel and writes in his own, funnier version before ending it with the original last lines of the novel. Sounds very awesome!

28 Day LNJF Challenge: Favorite Moment from the Best of Fallon Special

Montage of Jimmy Fallon's best musical impressions and parodies including Tebowie, Bob Seger, Neil Young, Paul Simon, and Bob Dylan? How about YES!?

A Book Trailer

Yes, we've heard of trailers for television shows and films. There have even been trailers for music videos, albums, songs, and such. I have never heard of a book trailer, though. However, if the first one I see stars B.J. Novak and Mindy Kaling, features his surefire-awesome new book of fiction, addresses the B.J. pretentiousness rumors, and has two references to The Office, I think I'm going to really like book trailers. This one is sheer perfection.

Pixar Wars

Apparently, Disney is going to further milk the Star Wars franchise they've acquired (not that there's anything wrong with that). Disney is commissioning Pixar to create an assuredly-animated Star Wars film. Hopefully, it will be nothing like The Clone Wars. There are absolutely zero details about this endeavor so far, except for the fact that it could take a very long time to reach release, as development in Pixar takes a while. We might not see it until (possibly) 2021, according to optimistic estimates. Intriguing idea, though.

28 Day LNJF Challenge: Favorite Running Gag

Man, I really love Hot Sax! I first saw it on a re-run on Christmas Eve and I laughed and laughed and laughed. I love when it gets passed around. Sorry, Funkin' Gonuts, but Hot Sax is the best!

Community Calendar

A German retirement community recently had some fun while making a calendar for 2014, starring some of their very own residents! Movies like Mary Poppins, Rocky, James Bond, Breakfast at Tiffany's, and Titanic are parodied in hilariously awesome fashion. To see the other eleven and discover the seven other film scenes recreated, just check out the full gallery!

Rashida Jones and Steve Carell: Together Again

After departing Parks and Recreation, Rashida Jones has already locked up a comedy series to star in, as has Rob Lowe. Lowe's will be on NBC, but Jones' will be on TBS and produced by Steve Carell. It is obviously a comedy and is called Tribeca. Here is the press release on the plot from Hollywood Reporter.

"Conceived by Steve Carell and his wife, Nancy, the couple will write and executive produceTribeca, a single-camera satirical look at a police procedural anchored by Angie Tribeca (Jones), a 10-year veteran of the LAPD's elite RHCU -- Really Heinous Crimes Unit."

Could be good!

As Dreamers Do

There's no ritzy promotions, big-name actors, or high budget production costs, but that doesn't mean the new Walt Disney biopic, As Dreamers Do, doesn't have potential. It is an independent film about the early life of the beloved Walt which is still looking for locations for the release. I'm definitely intrigued!

28 Day LNJF Challenge: Favorite Late Night Superlative

There's so much more to this Griff Whalen superlative than just the hilarious joke. It's true. You can see it being true. And, his teammate Colby Fleener did jazz hands after scoring a touchdown right in Whalen's face. Whalen took it all in stride and had some fun with it, too. Jimmy's imitation of him after the joke was just perfect.

The First Annual Power Awards Nominations

It's no secret the nominations, awards, and everything about most award shows (other than the Golden Globes) are all completely pretentious. Nobody's favorite movies of 2013 were Philomena or Her. There was complete snubbery. Let's be real. I decided to take matters into my own hands and create my own awards for the blog. I considered doing my own versions of the Oscars, Emmys, Grammys, etc, but I instead decided to combine them all into one to create more of a variety type awards program. Categories from all over will be involved in the first nominees for the Power Awards. Everything nominated comes from January 1, 2013 to December 31, 2013. This is strictly 2013. It's time to make awards fun again. (By the way, it was really hard to leave out Paul Giamatti, Colin Farrell, Chris Pratt, Jason Schwartzman, and James Franco from the Supporting Actor category. And to The Hangover Part III. Really sorry! All honorable mentions, though.) Also, I will only be nominating things I know I can accurately judge. More Hulk? Awesome!

Mark Ruffalo talked to Hypable about the 2015 sequel to The Avengers, The Avengers: Age of Ultron. First and foremost, he said it will be much darker, but there will be some great Hulk moments. He says it's "better," "cooler," and "witty." I think Ruffalo really makes an awesome Hulk and he has turned Bruce Banner into an exceptionally fascinating character. Can't wait! The full article is, of course, at Hypable.

The State of NBC

NBC has made its way to the top, now being ranked as the second most watched network! How awesome is that? What a comeback! I definitely support you, NBC. Apparently, NBC has The Sound of Music, The Blacklist, The Voice, Sunday Night Football, The Tonight Show, Late Night, and everything Tina Fey and Amy Poehler have done to thank. The ratings are coming for the National Broadcasting Company and I couldn't be happier. The Hollywood Reporter has an entire article voicing its support for the peacock. They're back!

28 Day LNJF Challenge: Favorite Late Night Hashtag

I definitely enjoyed the #misheardlyrics hashtag for Misheard Lyrics. People had some pretty good ones. I wish the video was still up on their YouTube channel.

Peter Pan: The Musical

Following the success of the live Sound of Music musical this past December, Bob Greenblatt has given the green light for production on a live Peter Pan musical for this December, December 4, to be specific. Nothing else has been said about it, except for the fact that NBC is really hoping for another ratings darling and lots of cash. Maybe another past American Idol winner will play the lead. Say, Ruben Studdard? Who knows?!

Amy Poehler's Overall Deal

NBC knew they had landed a keeper, so they locked her up. A seventh season of Parks and Recreation has become very likely now that Amy Poehler has signed an overall deal with her employers, NBC. The deal is for three years and I'm not quite sure what it entails, but I do know she will produce a comedy pilot that will star Natasha Lyonne. Good to see her staying in the NBC family!

28 Day LNJF Challenge: What You're Most Looking Forward To on The Tonight Show

There's so many things to look forward to. Jimmy has said the show will not be much different from Late Night so that is good. I'm really looking forward to how much fun it's going to be. Earlier time slot. Bigger studio. First pick on celebrity guests. Just a lot of fun. It's all good stuff.

The Spoils of Babylon

Tobey Maguire, Kristen Wiig, Tim Robbins, Jessica Alba, Val Kilmer, Haley Joel Osment, Michael Sheen, David Spade, Will Ferrell, Steve Tom, Marc Evan Jackson, and Carey Mulligan. Seems like an all-star cast, right? Right. This was the cast of the IFC comedy parody mini-series, The Spoils of Babylon. Jesus Christ was this show just really bizarre. I mean, I really enjoyed it and it was definitely quite funny, but my god was it just so out there. It'll probably be on Netflix one day and the whole thing ran for just three hours over six episodes, but that does not lessen the quality because it was spectacular. Definitely worth it, but also very confusing and just freaking weird.

Tracey Wigfield: Breakout Star

Television Blend, a rather unknown, but still credible, mind you, has named Tracey Wigfield the television breakout star of 2014! Wigfield was formerly a writer for 30 Rock, even penning the finale episode, Last Lunch. Now, she is co-head writer with Mindy Kaling on The Mindy Project. She is very funny and I certainly am a big fan of her's!

Some Good Commercials To Check Out

Obviously the list of my favorite Super Bowl commercials is coming soon, but for now, check out two very neat commercials with great overlays playing in the background and ever so melodious to the ear. These were not Super Bowl commercials. Gotta love both Dead Poets Society and the Snow Miser.

28 Day LNJF Challenge: Favorite Thank You Note

I did not have to search long for this one. I knew right where to look. It will forever be my favorite Late Night Thank You Note.

Cookie Dough Oreos

Oreo and cookie dough. My two favorite flavors of ice cream combined into one cookie. And guess what? They're actually not that bad! That's the big storyline. They're actually quality. A beautiful thing.

Mini Friends

Bruna Conforto is really good at making miniature models of different buildings and other such structures. She recently created a miniature corner-for-corner replication of the apartment from Friends. Specifically, Monica and Rachel's apartment. It is vastly accurate and quite impressive.

13 Funniest Things Kids Say To Teachers

28 Day LNJF Challenge: Favorite Monologue Joke

I searched for a long time to find the picture of this joke from February 2013, but I just could not find it anywhere. Anyway, here it is:

"On Saturday, Punxsatawney Phil saw his shadow and you know what that means! Nothing. Because that's not how weather works."

Happy 2014 Valentine's Day!

Ah, Valentine's Day. Sure, it's the definition of a "Hallmark Holiday," but that doesn't mean you can't enjoy yourself! Plus, CVS will have a lot of sales tomorrow!

28 Day LNJF Challenge: Favorite Celebrity Ever on the Show

Obviously Jimmy has had so many guests who I just really love. Mindy Kaling, Jason Schwartzman, Tina Fey, Seth Meyers, Amy Poehler, Andy Samberg, Ben Stiller, Tom Hanks, to name a few. But, if we're speaking about guests strictly in the context of the show, then I always get really excited when Justin Timberlake is on the show.

Safety Not Guaranteed

I recently watched the Indie-ish film, Safety Not Guaranteed, on Netflix. It stars Jake Johnson, Aubrey Plaza, and Mark Duplass. I must say that I really enjoyed it. The film was definitely not the conventional romantic comedy and it was not laugh out loud funny, but it was charming, clever, and astoundingly magical. I highly recommend it.

Kate Mouland

Not really a household name, for sure, but it's a great story. A man sat next to a little girl on an airplane and the girl's mother was on the other side of her, as that's how the seats were arranged and purchased. This girl has autism and her mother was nervous things would not go well with the man. However, he was extremely friendly and personable. She wrote an open letter to him and he found it and responded to her anonymously. It's a very nice story, but I won't share the whole thing with you. Buzzfeed did.

75 Best Songs: 29

There have been many versions of this song over the years, but Michael Buble just puts so much heart into it. So much emotion.

Michael Cera Comes Back to Television

A new FX comedy pilot called How and Why has cast Michael Cera and John Hawkes! It'll be good to see Cera's awkward, pale face on television yet again! It is apparently a story about a man, a nuclear reactor, and life. Could be quite good!

Loren Carpenter Retires

At the age of sixty-six, Loren Carpenter retired from Pixar after being there since the beginning, working on every film from Toy Story to Monsters University, and actually naming the company. He did it very quietly and I do so hope he fares well. Fare thee well, Loren Carpenter!

75 Best Songs: 30

Yes, yes, fine. I heard this song in the first trailer for The Secret Life of Walter Mitty. Doesn't make it any less of a song or any less credible. Very life-affirming, just like the movie.

First Poster for They Came Together

They Came Together has a very good shot at being 2014's best movie. It is a romantic comedy parody starring Paul Rudd and Amy Poehler. Also, Ed Helms and Max Greenfield. So the cast is awesome and hilarious and the poster is quite funny as well! I can hardly wait! This will be amazing, I just know it.

A Drew Barrymore Book

Apparently Drew Barrymore is a photographer now. She has released a new book of photographs and it has become a nationwide best-seller. These pictures are of various objects she saw that looked like hearts. Millions of dollars for that. I still like Drew Barrymore, though, so it's okay.

28 Day LNJF Challenge: Favorite Game with the Audience

There are so many great things about Name That Guy, especially when it's 12:37 A.M. There's the short video, the behind the scenes look, the speed round, the hints, the guest background, the 90's celebrity. It's always just so perfect.

Max

My dog and best friend of twelve years, Max, recently passed away and I decided to create this photographic montage of awesome pictures of him, set to The Weight by The Band. January 2, 2002 - February 10, 2014, love you, Max.

Today, after twelve years, he went out on his own terms. Max was the most loyal, carefree, fun, tenacious dog I will ever know. When I was younger, I used to lay down in front of him and close my eyes to see if he would do the same. Last night, I did it one last time and he kept his eyes closed so I finally did it. I cannot remember life without you, my dear friend. I will never forget the hours we'd spend playing basketball and fetch together. You chasing your rock down the hill is the embodiment of the free spirit you always were. I'll see you when I get home, Max.

I want to share two quotes, one provided by my brother, and the latter by my father, which were really just perfect sentiments about Max.

"It is because we love so much that it hurts so bad...I would always prefer to have loved than to have never felt the hurt."

"To call him a dog hardly seems to do him justice,
though inasmuch as he had four legs, a tail, and barked,
I admit he was, to all outward appearances. But to those who
knew him well, he was a perfect gentleman."

Thank you, Max. I love you.

75 Best Songs: 31

One of the only rap songs I like. Will there ever be a more "this" song than Hey Ya? If that makes any sense.

28 Day LNJF Challenge: Favorite Musical Moment

Oh my god, so many great ones to choose from. Jesse and the Rippers, Miley Cyrus A Capella, Tux, Scrambled Eggs, The Ragtime Gals' Sexy Back. Just so many good options, but I have to pick this one. It just is so much fun and has such great energy. Stephen Colbert, The Roots, Jimmy Fallon, Taylor Hicks, and the Knicks City Dancers sing Friday to raise money for charity.

2014 Golden Globes

The 2014 Golden Globes were awesome. They definitely know what's what a lot more than the Oscars and the Emmys do. I just wanted to take a minute to share my favorite moments from an awesome show. It truly was great, wasn't it?

The 2014 Golden Globes. A.K.A., the Lorne Michaels take-over of the world.

Joshua Gomez Again!

In the sixteenth episode of The Crazy Ones' first season, Joshua Gomez will play a character named George, who is a copy-righter, that works with Andrew, who is Hamish Linklater, another great being. It's good to see the Chuck alums still doing work. Gomez is the best.
