Late Night with Seth Meyers Premiere

One week after the premiere of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, the Seth Meyers era of Late Night premiered. It was very homely and quite funny. The monologue was great, as expected with Seth's great delivery and his stellar writing staff. Some of the quips I had actually heard beforehand, wink. The best was a pretty shocking one.

"A man in New York City found a rat baked into his birthday cake. He looked at it and said, 'Does this mean I get to make another wish?'"

So great. He told a charming and humorous story about how his car got a flat tire and instead of fixing it (which he has no idea how to do) he sat in the car and played Scrabble on his phone. Then, arguably the best part of the show and one of the funniest parts of each subsequent episode was Fred Talks. Seth asks Fred Armisen something, something Fred has no idea what it will be about, and then Fred just completely lies about it. In the premiere, Fred made up a story about a new show he created called Recent History which only covers "the last hour" and airs on the History Channel at either "six or seven in the morning." So funny. Fred and Seth is the best.

Then, a couple of segments took place with Seth laughing about the odd graphics used for each. One was Venn Diagrams (i.e., you have people who wear fedoras and people who are cool and the only one both groups have in common is Indiana Jones). The others were related to the Winter Olympics, the best being Costas Vision, making fun of Bob Costas' pink eye (i.e., instead of seeing the luge, Costas saw a hot dog going down a Hot Wheels ramp).

Then, Amy Poehler got first billing over Vice President Joe Biden and she reveled in Seth having his own show. The two former co-anchors on Weekend Update chatted enjoyably for a little while and Biden joined them and it was all good fun. To conclude, A Great Big World performed and the episode ended.

I am definitely enjoying Late Night with Seth Meyers, it is very laid-back, very smart, very humorous, and very relaxing. Seth is so charming and just the best. Quality program and will definitely stay on the DVR.
