Argument 11: Which Yankees Loss Was More Painful? Bucky Dent or Aaron Boone?

Book Answer: Bucky Dent

Any Yankees lose is painful, but these two are the creams of the crop. The situations:

Bucky Dent: 1978. Red Sox have 16 game lead in division in July. Lead dwindles down to tie and one game tiebreaker. Bucky &^*%!#@ Dent homers and the Yankees never look back.

Aaron Boone: 2003. ALCS. Red Sox have five game lead. Pedro lets New York tie it (Grady Little rather), extra innings. Wakefield faces Boone. Boone walks off.

Let's see after 2003 the Sox won the World Series in 2004, so that helps Bucky's case. But, Boone's was in the postseason. The Sox collapsed majorly in '78. Boone's was a walk-off.

I'll say Boone. Dent seems pretty bad, but for me, walk-offs kill. As soon as he it it you just knew it was all over and depression reigned. Bucky's wasn't a walk off. Aaron Boone's takes it for me. I can't imagine going through that. I don't remember 9 years ago very well. Man oh man, what a angry category.

  1. Yeah, that's a tough one. I would guess whoever was more invested in those teams or seasons would feel their loss was the worst.
