Argument 9: Should Doug Mientkiewicz Have Kept The 2004 World Series Winning Baseball?

Book Answer: Yes

Doug caught the ball and tagged first for the final out of the 2004 World Series. The Red Sox demanded that they get the ball back from him. Sure, he could have handled it better, but the Sox had no right to ask for it. The book has such a strong argument for this one. The Red Sox's baseball statement says that whoever possesses the baseball may keep it, for example, a foul ball in the stands is now the fan's. Why change it for Doug's case? Also, they don't own the baseball. The home team supplies the baseballs. The Red Sox were in St. Louis that night. It's Doug's ball, but the Sox have it, sadly.

  1. Yeah, weird how rules can be bent to fit the situation. Weird all around.
