Book Answer; They Did
Nomar is arguably the greatest shortstop in Red Sox history and it was surprising when they traded him at the deadline in 2004. He was injury-prone so maybe the deal made sense when they traded him at what could be the biggest peak in value he would have left. Of course, it would have been possible to work out a deal with Nomah. I'm sure he would have liked to come back. Maybe he could still provide some pop for 2005 and beyond, but I can't argue too much against the trade because it brought us Dave Roberts. No Roberts, no title.
I think it could have been handled better, I guess.
