July 10: Red Sox v. White Sox

Thanks to a birthday gift from my aunt and uncle, I saw an amazing Boston Red Sox game! One of the best of the season, in fact. The July 10 game between the Red Sox and Chicago White Sox was filled with a whole lot! Jon Lester had twelve strikeouts through seven innings, an impressive feat, in one of his last games with the Sox. Chicago had an early 1-0 lead they carried to the sixth inning and even had a no-hitter going for a while. But then some walks (and yes, a hit eventually) lead to a three-run sixth inning for Boston, a lead which they held to the ninth. There, Koji Uehara gave up a two-run home run to Conor Gillaspie and the game was tied. Extra innings? They'd need only one. Daniel Nava walked, Mookie Bets sacrifice bunted to move Nava to second, Stephen Drew walked, and then Mike Carp's left field single brought Nava home and the Red Sox had their second consecutive walk-off win! They won the game despite only three hits, one less than their four runs. A historic game. At least, in my mind.

  1. Glad you enjoyed it and that you got to see one of Lester's last Red Sox games. Hopefully he will be back somewhere down the road!
