Burn Notice

*SPOILERS AHEAD*

This post won't be as lengthy as the finale posts for such shows as The Office, 30 Rock, Chuck and more. It'll be more of a Leverage-type. Mainly because I didn't quite pay attention to season one and then seasons five and six. I did pay attention to season seven. It was tough to see Michael and Sam fight in the penultimate episode. It took Fiona's life to snap Michael back to reality. Then, Michael knows he messed up and he got too involved. So much so that he tries twice to irrationally kill himself. The person who does end up killing herself? That would be Michael's mother, Madeline. She realized that if she didn't do something, not only would she die, but so would Michael, Sam, Fiona, Jesse and Charlie, her grandson. So she tells Jesse to keep Charlie safe and then fight his way out as she wouldn't be able to. When the evil guards enter, she presses a detonator, killing the guards - and herself. Luckily, she had two poignant moments with Michael. When he told Sam and Fiona (which is fitting that his last mission is only with those two) they didn't handle it very well.

Anywho, Michael and Fiona devise a plan to escape the seemingly-dire situation they've gotten themselves in. It culminates in a scene that you could be almost sure that Michael was about to say, "I'm Michael freakin' Weston." It's not that cheesy. It works very well, until the man behind the entire season seven evil plot, James, presses a detonator, setting off bombs throughout the building. Sam makes it out, but it didn't look good for Michael and Fiona.

Sure enough, later on, Sam and Jesse are meeting with Senator Robert Lipton and he tells them that Michael will get his star on the CIA memorial, despite the wishes of other operatives. Sam thanks him and tells him, "you know spies. A bunch of bitchy little girls." Lipton then tells the two that they will be released from their apparent prison.

The next scene shows the funeral of Michael Weston and Fiona. Sam and Jesse are in attendance and Michael will be buried next to his brother, Nate, and mother, Madeline. Sam then says to Jesse, "where do you think he is?" Then, we see the scene where Michael and Fiona are about to be blown up. Michael grabs her hand and immediately begins running from the building. They jump into the water, just as it explodes. Either Sam caught up with them and knew they had to go, or he knew them well enough to know they'd gotten out okay and would be on the run. Maybe he even checked the coffin, who knows?

We last see Michael, Fiona, and Charlie curled up on a couch in what seems to be Ireland, where Michael and Fiona first met and got together. Michael asks Fiona what he should tell Charlie about himself. She says, "start from the beginning. Say, 'my name's Michael Weston. I used to be a spy.'" That explains the narrative. Then, Burn Notice was over.

I thought it was a nice, poignant ending and I knew that someone had to die. It's too bad. I don't think this is the end of the legendary, Sam Axe, though. Matt Nix, the creator of Burn Notice, doesn't think so either. Nonetheless, for the time being, we should appreciate Burn Notice for what it was. The show that put cable dramas on the map.

Now, the show has been burned itself. Maybe it will go to Miami and try to figure out what happened.
