IFC: Clutch

Good news for fans of comedy good things on this planet. IFC has ordered a sequel to the Funny or Die miniseries, Eric Jonrosh's The Spoils of Babylon. Starring Kristen Wiig and Tobey Maguire, along with an onslaught of top guest starring talent, The Spoils of Babylon was one of the best things to grace our television screens this year. Michael Sheen, Val Kilmer, Jessica Alba, Haley Joel Osment, and Tim Robbins all played big parts in the show.

The second installment will be titled Eric Jonrosh's The Spoils Before Dying and it will be a detective story with an erotic charge set in the 1950s jazz "scene." IFC's statement, "It follows a jazz-pianist turned private eye who becomes embroiled in a murder investigation that spins out of control and leads him down paths - romantic and otherwise - he never expected," makes me very excited and curious. The concept seems great! But who will they cast? The last cast was stellar. Kristen Wiig even scored an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Mini-Series or Movie, which was one of two noms, the other being for main title theme music.

Coming in the summer of 2015, The Spoils Before Dying will boast six episodes again. IFC President, Jennifer Caserta, made me very excited when she said, "Eric Jonrosh and his most-prized works will continue to entertain and enthrall audiences for generations to come." Perhaps it's more than just a two-logy. Executive producer and director, Matt Piedmont, said, "Television audiences haven't clamored this much for a second season since After M*A*S*H." Will Ferrell said, "Hang on to your hats, America! This one's going to be totally bonkers!"

Ferrell and Piedmont are both executive producers on the show along with Adam McKay, writer Andrew Steele, and Nate Young. They all will return for The Spoils Before Dying. The Spoils of Babylon, however, is now streaming on Netflix. Happy days! We must be victors because my, my we have received spoils.
