Argument 69: Who Was The Better Player? Ted Williams or Joe DiMaggio?

Book Answer: Joe DiMaggio

The book's main reason for picking Joltin' Joe over Teddy Ballgame is with fielding. They gave the edge to Ted with hitting, but chose Joe due to his speedy skills. Let's compare the stats and you can see why I pick Williams.

Home runs: Ted Williams by 160.
RBIs: Ted Williams by 302.
Hits: Ted Williams by 440.
Average: Ted Williams by .19.
Stolen Bases: Joe Dimaggio by 6.
Fielding Percentage: Joe Dimaggio by .4.

Joe had a slight advantage with stolen bases and fielding percentage. Ted really was better overall. Honestly. It's a debate that has raged on and will continue to, but in my opinion, Teddy's your man.
