Argument 70: Should Ted Williams Have Been Traded For Joe DiMaggio?

Book Answer: No

The writers told a humorous story that during a drunken night, the Red Sox owner offered Ted Williams for Joe DiMaggio. When sober in the morning, the offer was quickly rescinded. Would it have paid off, if it had gone through, though? Absolutely not. DiMaggio may have more titles to his name, but that doesn't mean the fate of the Sox laid with him. Ted Williams is the greatest Red Sox player to ever live. Why would anyone want to ever trade that? Sure, sometimes DiMaggio would have been a boost, but that's true for any team. He just wasn't worth it. Teddy all the way.

  1. What a change in baseball history that would have been, though!
