The names of sporting teams are supposed to strike fear into the hearts of their opponents. For example, the Memphis Grizzlies, Pittsburgh Pirates, Minnesota Vikings, Boston Bruins, Florida Gators. Is the next one to join the ranks, the New Orleans Pelicans? Absolutely not. The Hornets were a unique nickname for NOLA, I didn't mind it. I think the Pelicans is more creative and more fun, but not more menacing. Overall, the choice could go either way in the results of being taken seriously. The main reasoning, I suppose, is that Louisiana is the Pelican State. Kinda cute, actually.
