Variety Series: The Colbert Report, The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, Jimmy Kimmel Live, Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, Real Time with Bill Maher, Saturday Night Live.

The Office also scored nominations in three other categories, bringing their farewell season total to four. Greg Daniels was nominated for Outstanding Writing for Finale. David Rogers was nominated for Outstanding Single Camera Picture Editing for Finale. Ben Patrick was nominated for Outstanding Sound Mixing for Finale. John Krasinski was nominated for Outstanding Special Class Programs for The Office: Farewells. Well-earned.

Ready to hear me gripe? I am satisfied with only five things at these nominations. 30 Rock got their due, Betty White received another nomination, Bob's Burgers got recognized, The Amazing Race is bound to win, and Jimmy Fallon scored a nomination. Other than that, I am sickened. I don't have an opinion in the drama categories, but in the comedy categories, I actually feel sick to my stomach. I thought that the Academy was actually aware of the fact that Modern Family and The Big Bang Theory DO NOT deserve a combined sixteen nominations. What the hell is that? Those are not smart comedies. An episode of The Big Bang Theory literally relied on Sheldon fart jokes for it's laughter. That's not an Emmy-winning comedy. That's not a smart comedy. Modern Family's fourth season is genuinely a carbon copy of it's first season. I thought the Academy was above those two, but I guess not. I know you may think there's a bias, but it's not just the fact that The Office had the greatest end to a season and series in television history and it only garnered four nominations? If anything, give some love to Jenna Fischer! She deserves it over Mayim Bialik. To prove that I'm not biased, how about this gem? There was only one Fox comedy nomination. Raising Hope got it for best original theme lyrics. Not even for its comedy! The Mindy Project received nothing, which is appalling by itself because that has grown fonder to me as I realize its brilliance. New Girl received nothing. That's the biggest travesty of the whole shebang. Community didn't get nominated, but if it wasn't nominated for season three, then it won't be nominated for its fourth. The Office didn't get it's due. The Big Bang Theory was nominated for Best Comedy. But out of everything, the fact that New Girl didn't garner one nomination is sickening. Jake Johnson, Max Greenfield and Zooey Deschanel all delivered brilliant performances. New Girl itself deserved a Best Comedy nomination.

Enough about the rant, though. I'll summarize it. Modern Family and The Big Bang Theory do not deserve the combined sixteen nominations they got. They absolutely do not deserve it whatsoever. The Academy had trouble recognizing brilliance. It's a shame.

  1. That is one of the problems, sometimes the shows the people like and think that deserve the awards are the ones that are overlooked. Sometimes for too long. Angela Lansbury never won an award for Murder, She Wrote, and that, to me, is an embarrassment for the Emmys.
