Beverly D'Angelo has played Ellen Griswold before, but when she plays her in National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation, the holiday magic comes into play. Sure, she says, "It's Christmas and we're all in misery," but at the end, she gives Clark a hug and returns to the home. Maybe it's because of a pool and extra cash, but it's a good Christmas that she experiences nonetheless. And Ellen doesn't spend the holidays dead so it's a win!
