I think this was a pretty solid year for music and that is vastly evidenced by the fact that I actually had trouble narrowing this list down to ten.
10. Yellow Flicker Beat by Lorde - Lorde was given the reigns on Mockingjay's soundtrack and this song was definitely her best composition.
9. Chandelier by Sia - This power ballad unfolds unaffected by its exceptionally bizarre video counterpart.
8. Love Never Felt So Good by Michael Jackson and Justin Timberlake - Something only Justin Timberlake could do: Resurrect the dead.
7. All of Me by John Legend - What's truly remarkable about this song is the fact that it's simply Legend, his voice, and his piano.
6. I'm With You by Grouplove - This Los Angeles-based modern rock band rose to prominence this year thanks to an appearance on The Fault in Our Stars soundtrack. This song was not included on it, but it has become one of their prominent tunes as they tour the country.
5. Here Comes Trouble by Chronixx - The Tonight Show gave Chronixx his American television debut and he delivered with a catchy new beat in reggae.
4. Love Someone by Jason Mraz - The brilliant Mraz had a new album this year and Love Someone was boasted as the disc's delightfully charming single.
3. Magic by Coldplay - In a change of tone, Coldplay's latest hit was a bit softer than songs like "Viva La Vida" or "Clocks." The emotional resonance remained, though.
2. The Miracle (of Joey Ramone) by U2 - Even though you may not like how it was forced into your iTunes, this song is a defining mark on U2's comeback year.
1. Take Me to Church by Hozier - The Grammys have nominated this for Song of the Year and for good reason. It is emotionally-charged and powerful with meaningful lyrics, too.
I will have to come back to this list and listen to all the tunes another time. But you have me liking Take Me to Church, a lot. :)
ReplyDeleteI came back and listened to them all today. I love some of them, including the Hozier one you turned me on to. Some I didn't care for, but to each their own. Thanks for sharing!
