This one is the definition of a classic. Is there any movie that represents book-to-film, Technicolor, and musical layering better than The Wizard of Oz? And it was done all the way back in 1939! I read Mickey Rooney's autobiography and he said he would be rehearing scenes for movies with Judy Garland while she was getting makeup put on her so she could run to the nearby sound stage and shoot scenes for The Wizard of Oz. When considering that, it's amazing the movie came out as well as it did! And it holds up, too!
Musical fantasy directed by Victor Fleming and written by Noel Langley, Florence Ryerson, and Edgar Allan Woolf in 1939.
Starring: Judy Garland, Frank Morgan, Ray Bolger, Jack Haley, Bert Lahr, Billie Burke, and Margaret Hamilton.
Tune in tomorrow for number sixty!
Do I even need to say this is a classic at this point?
