100 Favorite Movies: 13

Look at all the taglines on this poster! "When Kevin's Family Left for Vacation, They Forgot One Minor Detail: Kevin," "But Don't Worry...He Cooks. He Cleans. He Kicks Some Butt," "A Family Comedy Without the Family," and "From John Hughes." (Okay, maybe that last one doesn't count, but seriously! How many taglines does one movie need?) This is one of the best Christmas movies ever and, as you can see by its placement, one of the best movies ever made. I think out of every film on this list, Home Alone is the one I quote the most. "Keep the change, ya filthy animal." "Jimmy, stop that boy!" "Look what ya did, you little jerk!" "This is my house; I have to protect it." It's just so good! Such a simple premise, but it's ingenious and purely Hughesian all the way. And what a soundtrack, too. The music is playing in my head right now and it delights me. I wish it was Christmastime again.

Holiday comedy directed by Chris Columbus and written by John Hughes in 1990.

Starring: Macaulay Culkin, Joe Pesci, Daniel Stern, Catherine O'Hara, John Heard, Roberts Blossom, John Candy, Ken Hudson Campbell, Kieran Culkin, Hillary Wolf, Gerry Bamman, and Devin Ratray.

Tune in tomorrow for number twelve!

  1. Great movie. Fun, funny and heartwarming. What more can you ask for in a Christmas movie?
