While here on this list now we feature Barney Stinson, he was not initially the only character from How I Met Your Mother I had featured. I also had Lily Aldrin and Marshall Eriksen. But upon further thought, I realized that in the grand scheme of the top sixty, Barney was truly the only deserving one of a spot. And he's a great character with a lot more depth than most people give him credit. Look, I understand a lot of the criticism of the show and of Barney. If I knew a guy like Barney, I probably wouldn't be friends with him, Yes, he's a douche with a Peter Pan/your misogynistic uncle drunk at Thanksgiving combination of complexes, but as the show went on, the audience realized that there was more to Barney. Beneath all of his Casanova swagger was real pain, real aching, real intelligence. And his character shone even more when this was revealed, time and again.
